Toxic Mercury Exposure.. Sources & Symptoms

mercury spilling from toothOur first knowledge of the word “mercury” often comes when we’re in elementary school, learning about the planets. At that time, Mercury is seen as something fun and interesting. Many are often unaware that the element, “mercury”, found all over the Earth (land and water) is actually very dangerous to our health.

Mercury comes in various forms, such as liquid metal, vapors, and even compounds that make up rocks. Not so long ago, physicians were using mercury to treat various ailments, but after a while, came to realize that the element was actually doing more harm than good. While there are different forms that cause varying symptoms, just about all of them do serious damage to the brain and nervous system. Unfortunately, it isn’t very simple to just avoid mercury altogether. It’s present in most of our daily lives. For example, coal-burning power plants put mercury out into the atmosphere, fluorescent light bulbs contain it, along with dental amalgams, and the seafood that we’re told to consume multiple times a week. Why? Because the mercury wasn’t disposed of properly in the first place.

It’s not just small children either, who are affected by mercury. While small children and infants are risking impaired neurological development, older adults can face impaired vision, as well as impaired speech and hearing, difficulty walking, diminished coordination, and muscle weakness. Mercury can also seriously damage vital organs, and has also been linked to cancer.

As of now, you probably realize that mercury is anything but safe for consumption; it’s actually just unsafe to even be around. However, you don’t have to completely eliminate the element from your diet. Fish, after all, is quite healthy in many other ways and can provide you with a good source of proteins and fats. The trick is to choose fish that don’t contain any mercury at all, or contain a very low amount of it. It’s recommended that you avoid large predatory fish, like sharks, swordfish, and tuna. If you are a fish-eater, make sure not to consume more than 12 ounces a week.

Make sure that you do try to eliminate exposure to all kinds of mercury contained in some medical tools, disinfectants, light bulbs, and more. The symptoms of mercury poisoning include:

  • Mood swings
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Abnormal sensations, such as muscle twitching
  • Weakness and Muscles Atrophying
  • Decreased Cognitive Functions
  • Vision, hearing, and speech impairment
  • Diminished coordination

The hard part that comes with identifying mercury poisoning, is the fact that all of these symptoms can be caused by other problems, too. Make sure to get tested, as well as your kidneys and lungs for how well they function, as the element has the ability to directly affect them, too.

Here’s how to detoxify:

  • Take probiotics
  • Take chlorella
  • Consume garlic, cilantro, and MSM
  • Eat a clean diet with antioxidants, antibiotic-free meats
  • Take vitamin C and vitamin E
  • Use BodyPure Detox Foot Pads

While some of these measures may seem extreme at first, when you really start to read up on the terrible consequences mercury can have on our bodies, you will do everything you can to steer clear of it!
