Detoxifying the Ayurvedic Way

The change of lifestyles in recent years has seen the increase in the need to detox. It is interesting to note that detoxification has been in existence for centuries. Ayurveda is one of the ways that were used in the past to remove toxins from the body. The Ayurveda system of medicine has several detoxification ideas and recipes that can help to cleanse the body.

The Ayurveda View of Toxins

Ayurveda considers anything that does not benefit the body as toxic. This view is consistent with modern medicine’s view on toxicity. While both forms of medicine consider heavy metals, pollutants, and chemicals to be toxic, Ayurveda also identifies Ama, which is basically undigested food, as harmful. Toxins in the body cause various problems which include:

  • Headache
  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Feeling unwell
