When you think of living a healthier, more organic life, you might not equate this idea with fun. Most of us think of regimes, rules, and deprivation when we think of truly getting healthy, and this is not surprising. After all, the discipline required to eat well, exercise, and take care of ourselves is something many adults struggle with, and for good reason. But getting healthy, eating clean, and doing what you can to detox your body does not only have to be work. We’ve put together a few ways you can help your body to detox, while enjoying your day!
1) Keep your stress levels low
Many of us normalize stress, and use it as a way to motivate ourselves. Stress is important for humans to survive, and thrive, but being in a state of stress can take a toll on our body, impacting your metabolism and ability to process toxins and promote overall health. Ultimately, to ensure your metabolism, immune system, and cleansing organs are working optimally, you need to be sure you have a reasonable amount of stress in your life. Finding the time to relax and do what you enjoy is essential to your health.
2) Eat more (whole foods)
Eating clean isn’t always the easiest, and some of our favorite treats are often very bad for our health. But when it comes to finding detoxifying foods, the good news is that there is a huge variety of delicious whole foods for you to try. If you’re looking for am more pure and organic diet, have fun diving in to your new menu, sampling the fruits, veggies, and organic meats that you’ll be counting on in future for your diet. Blueberries, raspberries, carrots, tomatoes, onions, oranges, sweet potatoes, and squash are all examples of delicious and nutritious superfoods that can help you with your detox goals. Take some of the stress out of starting your detox by experimenting with new recipes, and enjoy more snacks and larger portion sizes on your cleaner diet.
3) Treat yourself
Sometimes, we all get in the mood to be spoiled and when it comes to your health, this isn’t an impulse you should necessarily avoid. There are a few items you can use to treat yourself that will help to boost your overall health, and help your body to release toxins. If you feel tense or overtired, booking a massage or just taking an impulse nap might be exactly what you need. If you’ve got some time, you might want to consider going for a detoxifying foot bath, or making use of one of these 10-hour detoxifying foot patches at home. Treat yourself to these steps toward a detox, and you’ll feel better and more energized!
4) Make carbs and fried foods an occasional treat
Committing to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean you can never eat fried foods or carbs again. The major change will be that, when you do eat these things, it will be as a very occasional treat (and you’ll almost certainly enjoy them more!) Many of us love to snack on fried foods and carbs, and it is only natural! The immediate satisfaction of energy we get from these calorie-loaded snacks gives us a rush of endorphins, and makes us crave these unhealthy treats when we are low on energy. It can be hard to make the change from fried foods and carbs. But fortunately (or unfortunately) you may find that over time, as you change your diet, you might actually enjoy these heavy comfort foods less and less as your palate develops to a more healthy flavour choice.
5) Enjoy daily self care
There are small things you can do for yourself each day that can help you with your efforts to live a more organic lifestyle, and free yourself from toxins. No doubt you’ve read about the “self-care” movement, and the tenets can be applied to your daily detox efforts. Think of the things you use each day – toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, makeup, and replace them with organic options that are made from the best ingredients. These small changes will minimize the toxins you encounter. You can also add things to your daily routine to actively encourage detox, including a half hour meditation session, time to stretch or exercise, time for a nap, or even using these 10 hour foot patches (an at-home version of foot detoxifying baths you’ve no doubt heard of before). Be sure to make these small changes to your daily routine, and you’ll be both actively and passively helping your body to be safer, healthier and freer.
