A Full Body Detox – Tried & True Tips

Chances are, you’ve probably recently heard talk of some kind of “body cleansing”. Some may brush it off as some kind of trend, saying something like, “cavemen never had to cleanse their bodies!”. While that may be true, it just wasn’t necessary at that time. Now, we’re unfortunately exposed to an enormous amount of toxins. These toxins come from the food we consume, the water we drink and bathe ourselves in, as well as the pollutants in the environment we live in. At some point, we need to give our bodies a break. Unhealthy diets combined with sedentary lifestyles that so many of us live, make this even worse.

A body detox, or “body cleanse” is an efficient way of relieving our bodies of some of this stress, and giving it a boost after consuming unhealthy foods or drinking more alcohol than we should. Think of it as a detox like those you’d do after using alcohol or other drugs, but with the toxins we encounter in our everyday lives. Luckily, there are various ways to do so!

The easiest ways to detox our bodies naturally, is to of course, start exercising. Exercising helps to move everything through our bodies at a quicker pace than just sitting at our desk or on our couch would. In addition to exercise, there are also select foods and herbs that aid detoxing. It’s also a great idea to look into visiting a holistic dentist and have them remove any dental amalgams that can contain any harmful mercury.

Here, are the tried-and-true foods that can move your detox along:

Green Leafy Veggies: These are typically your kale and cabbage. They’re alkaline, meaning that they can help neutralize any excess sugar you’ve consumed, and help clear up your blood, removing any toxins.
Lemons, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, plums, apples, and tomatoes: While many of these fruits have a notorious sour flavor, they’re actually great at helping to keep your blood in an alkaline state.
Water: We all know that we’re mainly composed of water, meaning that consuming more (not too much) is always a good idea. Drinking the proper amount of water every day can work to flush out your system, taking any toxins along with it.
Avoid Toxin-Filled Foods: Make sure to avoid foods that you know contain harmful toxins or chemicals. Make sure you’re consuming nutrient-rich foods, and increase your fiber intake.
Fresh Cranberry Juice: Make sure you’re not consuming the “cranberry juice” that’s actually mainly concentrate, and full of sugars that are actually going to work against your detox. Natural cranberry juice works to prevent urinary tract infections and ulcers. It also contains vitamin C, manganese, as well as antioxidants.
Dandelion tea: While it may not taste the best, this diuretic will help get rid of harmful toxins by cleaning out your liver and kidneys.
Fresh Juices: Consuming fresh juices over 2-3 days can be very effective in ridding our bodies of the toxins we have built up.
